An idea I had since previous summer when the Tamiya CR-01 Ford Bronco was announced and I finally got its bodyset today. I used PS-30 brilliant blue, reproduction Ranger decals and PS-1 white covered from outside with PS-55 flat clear on my Land Cruiser chassis.

While waiting for the Tamiya Black Porsche 934…
…I finally managed to realize an idea I’ve had for a long time in my mind (long before the TamTeach Gear Black Porsche 934 was announced). The idea was to make a Black 934 close to the original 58001 concept (i.e. with a simple pan car chassis) but with modern parts, like Tamiya could have made it in the present.
1:10 49400 body and wheels (inner wheels painted to resemble disc brakes) were used with selfmade golden decals and matted black stripe decals. F103GT, TL01 and CR01 body mounts were used in such a way that no body pins and drilling of the body in the upper regions were needed.
An F103GT chassis was used as it’s the current Tamiya pan car chassis. To make it fit the short and wide 934 body, it was widened at the front with TG10 rear wheelaxles modified on a lathe and with spacers in the rear. The wheelbase was shortened with a custom made powerpod and T-bar and by turning the gearbox 180°. This way the chassis (I call it F103GT-SW) is also not mid-engine anymore, but rear engine, as a 911 should be. This isn’t a perfect performing runner but another concept of the Tamiyablog series “how could Tamiya have done it nowadays”. I would like to thank Miramar for his support on the technical solutions.

Happy New Year – Tamiyablog’s “de-blinged” Toyota Tundra
First of all happy new year, may 2009 bring everyone what they desire, not only modelwise (an article about that will come soon), but in every aspect.
The Tamiya Toyota Tundra is a very controversially discussed model between the editors of Tamiyablog. On one hand we like it since it has a quite nice and detailed body and especially since it is in our humble opinion the first real new 3 speed where not an older body was used. On the other hand we are critical about it because its an impractical and “bling-chrome” SUV which has not much in common with a practical and moderate cost pickup like the Hilux and is a gas-guzzling life-style car of a, fortunately even in the USA, dying breed. This motivated me to get one and try to “un-bling” it and bring it closer to the simplicity/practicality principle of the old lovely Tamiya/Toyota Hilux. The dampers and most of the chrome parts were stripped and painted black, the suspension was lowered, other wheels and tires were used, several “extras” weren’t used at all and the car was painted with a special automotive colour. Hope I succeeded at least a bit.
Tamiyablog’s Unimog
After the announcement of the Tamiya Unimog CR-01 release in July 2008 and the growing popularity of the CR-01 chassis, it was clear that the first Tamiyablog Unimog would not wait for long. Although the boxart Tamiya orange is an excellent colour choice, we like to try alternative colours. In the case of the Unimog that was not an easy task. But the PS-12 metallic silver now used, excellently accentuates the shapes of the “Universal Motorgerät”. We look forward to the next CR-01 release, the Jeep Wrangler.
Tamiya Blog Boys – Alternative
The title is changed from a Pet Shop Boys album called Alternative and featuring B-sides and alternative versions of some of their songs. I really enjoy the Tamiya re-releases as they are a great opportunity to try alternative paint schemes and modifications on those lovely classics without regrets and worries about failure or “value depreciation”. I build the original versions in box-art and try stuff I always wanted to try on the re-release versions. Hope you like some of them and maybe be inspired to try your own alternative ideas on them. Once again thank you Tamiya for those great rereleases, which other company offers such a chance?
