BTW, it’s an FB-model (1979-1986), not an SA22 (1977-1978).
The SA models were made in a different factory and are slightly different from the FB model which was produced in the new Mazda factory in Japan.
The FB is the popular version of the 1st gen RX-7.
Well, as Tamiya refers to the model as an SA22, we felt quite confident at Tamiyablog that this was also correct.
After getting your mail, we checked a few credible references, among them the Japanese version of the Mazda website, and as expected, Tamiya’s information IS correct. We choose to trust Mazda’s official website….
We understand where you got your misconception about “FB” from however;
Apparently, the 2nd series of the 1st generation RX-7 had the VIN-numbers starting with FB in USA and some other export markets, but remained the SA22C in Japan and many other markets.
Obviously, the Tamiya model is a 2nd series RX-7 and as such an SA22C known as an “FB” in the USA and a few other markets. So you are at least not entirely wrong!
